Dr. Goldsmith, founder of Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness, is taking over the South Florida weight loss market by storm. Recently selling 22 locations in the Dade, Broward and Palm Beach area, Dr. Goldsmith is bringing his weight loss concept mainstream. His newest clinic will be located at 4939 Sheridan Street, in the Sheridan Plaza. Dr. Goldsmith’s Hollywood clinic is conveniently located just 2 miles west of I-95, which is 10 minutes from the Dr. G’s pharmacy and 14 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.

In January, Dr. G’s Weight Loss opened their first franchise inside the Contour Day Spa, located in Plantation, Florida. The Contour Day Spa has been an icon for health and wellness for years. “Dr. G’s Weight Loss center really compliments the wellness experience at the Contour Day Spa”, says Fanit Panofsky, the owner of the Contour Day Spa. Valery Adkins, who was a Dr. G’s patient, purchased the Plantation weight loss center because she knew the program worked. “We promise that losing weight with Dr. G’s will be the easiest weight loss program you’ll ever do. No pressure, no anxiety, no hunger – just excitement when the pounds become a distant memory”, says Valery Adkins, owner of Dr. G’s Weight Loss of Plantation & Hollywood. In fact, it worked so well, that her sister-in-law Jennifer Adkins became partners with Valery on the Hollywood weight loss center. Since starting the program, Valery has lost 50 lbs and Jennifer has lost 40 lbs with 7 inches off her waist.

Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness is a doctor supervised prescription medication plan that helps patients lose an average of 8-10 lbs per month. So, what makes Dr. G’s different from the hundreds of weight loss clinics. The program consists of prescription medications that curb the patient’s appetite, raise their metabolism and make them feel full much faster when eating a meal. Most weight loss clinics usually have only one appetite suppressant and many times the suppressant they offer is an herbal one, not even requiring a doctor’s supervision. Dr. G’s has several prescription strength medications that are all safe and FDA approved. Some patients may plateau during their weight loss journey for various reasons. If this occurs while on the Dr. G’s program, they can change the patient’s medications, thereby breaking through the plateau effect. This can be very effective for patients who are on the program for several months and who may have a lot of weight to lose.

In addition to the medication program, patients receive monthly visits to see the doctor and wellness coach. The program starts off with a comprehensive medical evaluation that includes lab work, medical history and vitals signs. Using the results from this evaluation, Dr. G’s is able to customize a medication plan for the individual. The Wellness Coach then guides the patient with a real food diet plan and exercise recommendations. Dr. G’s has recently incorporated an organic meal plan that is an option to the patient, as well as, a full line of protein bars and shakes that can be used as meal replacements during the day. The Hollywood clinic also offers organic teeth whitening by DaVinci and is a distributor for all RevitaLash hair products.

Dr. G’s Hollywood location will be open in mid October, and the grand opening specials are now available for those who would like to schedule an appointment in advance. The clinic is located on the same side of the plaza as the Kohls department store and on select days there will be an informational table set up outside. Interested in learning more about the program, please call Valery at 954-423-1495. To stay engaged on weight loss please join Dr. G’s Weight Loss & Wellness Facebook and Twitter.

Treating IBS

June 7, 2019 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Irritable bowel syndrome is a chronic condition that requires long-term treatment. There is currently no cure for the disorder and very few prescription medications have been approved by the FDA to treat it. Lotronex (alosetron hydrochloride) may be prescribed to women who primarily have diarrhea but do not respond to conventional treatment methods. Be aware, though, that this medication can cause serious side effects like severe constipation and reduced blood flow to the colon to occur, so it should be used with caution.

Symptoms can be alleviated using several methods that are generally safe. Changing your diet and getting more exercise are two ways to reduce or eliminate symptoms. Avoid foods that stimulate the intestines like coffee or tea. If constipation is your problem, increase your fiber intake. Many dieticians recommend eating at least 15 grams of fiber per day for good health. You may also have a hidden allergy to certain substances, and the two most common are lactose and gluten. Following a lactose-free or gluten-free diet for a few weeks may product positive results.

Constipation can be caused by dehydration. Drinking adequate amounts of water per day will help guard against dehydration and keep the entire body lubricated including the colon. Each person’s water needs are different, but drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day is a good place to start. You can always adjust your consumption to fit your specific needs.

Certain medications can cause or aggravate IBS symptoms. If you are taking a prescription drug for an unrelated condition and you experience the onset or worsening of symptoms, then talk to your doctor about switching to a different medication.

Over-the-counter medications can be used to alleviate symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. These medications are made using natural ingredients that are safe to use and have little to no side effects. Get more information about these Ibs treatment options here.

June 7, 2019 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Insomnia can really prevent you from enjoying life to the full. If you cannot sleep and cannot fall asleep fast, you end up with no energy.

Without enough energy to be able to do what you really want you may end up being less than easygoing with your family and neighbours, to say the least. Its pretty annoying. Do you struggle for hours tossing and turning, not being able to get to sleep even though your really tired? Are you experiencing waking up in the middle of the night and lying awake hours on end? Insomnia is a really common sleep problem and has numerous causes and treatments.

Its very frustrating because you just want to get on with the day and not wake up with black bags under your eyes. What a mess!

So what exactly is insomnia?

Essentially it is a sleep disorder that means not being able to get the amount of sleep you need to help you feel fresh and relaxed the next day. People in general need different amounts of sleep. Chronic insomnia which involves long periods of sleepless nights, can contribute to an individuals health problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and chronic fatigue.

Insomnia can take control of your mood and ability to function in your daily activities. Simply changing daily habits in your lifestyle can stop those horrible sleepless nights. It is identified mainly by the quality of  your sleep not by how many hours you have slept.  Emotional issues i.e stress, anxiety, worrying and depression can lead to stressful wakefulness. Your daily habits, routines, night routine and health may also contribute to lack of sleep.

Effect of Medications

Medications that you are taking  could cause insomnia, such as antidepressants, diuretics, thyroid, hormone, high blood pressure medications and cold and flu medications that contain alcohol and pain killers which contain caffeine.

Some of the sleep disorders that could cause it are sleep apnea, narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome.

Medical causes include allergies, asthma, Parkinsons disease, acid reflux, kidney disease, night leg cramps cancer or chonic pain, all of which can keep you awake at night. Plus of course, a snoring partner!

Some of the symptoms for insomnia:

Frequent waking up during the night.- Waking up too early in the morning.

During the day youre feeling tired and drowsy or fatigued.

Finding it difficult to concentrate during the day.- Dont feel refreshed after waking up from your sleep.

Finding it difficult to fall asleep even though you are feeling really tired.

The causes of insomnia:

Are you struggling with chronic feelings of anxiety or worry?

Are you feeling depressed and hopeless?

Have you recently gone through a traumatic experience?

Are you taking any medications that could have an effect on your sleep?

Going to bed at the same time and waking around the similar time each day?

What are the treatments available ?

Treat any underlying medical conditions, which may be at its root. This is the most important step. Often after this the inability to sleep may disappear. If not then you may need further medical help.

Your doctor may advise you to establish fixed times for going to bed and waking up and also avoid sleeping after a not so good nights sleep. Try to relax before going off to bed. Maintain a good and comfortable sleeping environment not cold, hot, bright or noisy. Avoid having a nap through the day. Avoid caffeine or nicotine containing products at least  6 hrs  before going off to bed.  Avoid eating a heavy meal very late at night.

Give yourself time to wind down from the days concerns and to unhook from heavy analytical thinking. Last minute cramming for an exam or watching a scary movie just before bed is definitely not a good idea!

There are a variety of treatments which you could try to cure insomnia. Here are a few suggestions that your doctor may recommend for you:

Recommended Treatments

Biofeedback: Sensors connected to a machine are placed onto your body to measure body responses like heart rate of muscle tension. The machine then delivers pictures or sounds to indicate to help you control your breathing and body responses.

Paradoxical intention: This means trying to stay awake and avoiding  having any intentions of going to sleep. It can only be used if you are having trouble getting to sleep but not maintaining it.

Relaxation training: Aims to reduce the tension and minimise intrusive thoughts that may interfere with your sleep.

Sleep restriction therapy: Creates a mild sleep deprivation. Where you limit the amount of time spent in bed to the amount of sleep.

Cognitive behavioural therapy: Which aims to change your belief, opinion and attitudes towards insomnia.

Stimulus-control therapy: This aims to help you to establish a sleep and wake pattern.

If you feel that any of these insomnia cures and treatments may help you in any way to  fight the problem then speak with your doctor.

There are also many alternative, natural cures around and plenty to choose from including energy therapies such as acupuncture, EFT, reiki and so on. Other remedies might include massage, a warm bath, aromatherapy session, listening to relaxation music, meditation, nutritional remedies and more

Dont worry, try some of these and soon you may find yourself having a sound and refreshing sleep.
